Vets for Compassion

Renee HEATH (Eastern Victoria) (09:46): I would like to share a note that a constituent sent me last week about Vets for Compassion. She said:

A couple of Sundays ago, we had a kangaroo on our property who had broken her leg. After speaking with our local Wildlife organisation, they advised that we contact Vets for Compassion.

Vets for Compassion are a group of volunteer Vets and Vet nurses who attend wildlife emergencies across Victoria. They donate their expertise, time, equipment, supplies and transport to attend.

Our Vet and Vet nurse who attended that Sunday were able to sedate, assess and ultimately euthanise the kangaroo.

The literal compassion, kindness, professionalism and selflessness given by them was humbling.

After speaking with them, I was able to ascertain that funding for Vets for Compassion is nowhere near enough. Remember, these volunteers attend 24/7, 7 days a week, voluntarily.

As farmers, we were able to learn from them regarding the particular afflictions the kangaroo had aside from the broken limb. We were beyond grateful and in admiration of all they do and would respectfully ask for a review and greater funding contribution towards this voluntary service.

Under Labor, life is getting very hard for farmers. On behalf of our team I would like to sincerely thank the incredible volunteers from Vets for Compassion, who give of themselves and help the community in service to Victoria.
