Adjournment
Western Victoria Region
Bev McARTHUR (Western Victoria) (12:54): (2571) My constituency question is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. A 6-kilometre stretch of the Western Highway, eastbound from Gordon, has had its speed limit slashed from 110 kilometres per hour to just 60 because the road has been allowed to deteriorate so badly. This is no isolated pothole or temporary reduction over a few hundred metres; it is 6 kilometres of one of Victoria’s major passenger and freight routes. After receiving complaints from dozens of constituents, our outstanding Liberal candidate for Eureka Emma Muir inspected the stretch yesterday. She saw motorists forced to pull over with shredded tyres and rubber strewn across the road. Putting up 60 kilometre-per-hour signs is no substitute for properly maintaining a major highway. Minister, you promise money and maintenance but deliver media statements. When are you actually going to fix the roads?
