Homelessness
Sonja TERPSTRA (North-Eastern Metropolitan) (15:40): (2764) My adjournment matter this afternoon is for the Minister for Housing, Building and Precincts and Minister for Homelessness Nick Staikos in the other place. The Carroll Labor government is helping Victorians who are experiencing homelessness to get back on their feet. Ten new homelessness outreach services are being delivered across Brimbank, Shepparton, Hume, Whitehorse, Latrobe, Darebin, Bairnsdale, Maribyrnong, Wodonga and the Mornington Peninsula, backed by a $27.8 million investment. This investment underpins the government’s rollout of specialist outreach homelessness services across every region in Victoria, bringing the total number of assertive outreach services to 18. Dedicated support workers will be on the ground helping rough sleepers secure stable housing, alongside vital provisions for emergency accommodation, health, social care and wraparound supports. This initiative helps vulnerable people to get the help they need and ensures that they do not slip through the cracks. The action I seek is for the minister to update me on how these new assertive outreach services can connect people in the North-Eastern Metropolitan Region who may be experiencing homelessness with permanent housing and health pathways when these additional teams launch later this year.
