Adjournment
Ambulance services
Sonja TERPSTRA (North-Eastern Metropolitan) (18:50): (2789) My adjournment matter this evening is for the Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services. Every single day our ambulances and paramedics show up when Victorians need them the most. Between January and March alone they responded to nearly 95,000 code 1 emergencies, roughly a thousand life-saving responses a day across the state. Since last year nearly 300 new graduate paramedics have started on the job, which is part of a broader push that is expanding our road workforce by over 50 per cent and upgrading more than 51 ambulance branches. In the North-Eastern Metropolitan Region major health hubs like Box Hill and Maroondah hospitals and the Austin do incredible work, but they rely heavily on well-staffed, fully equipped paramedic teams to keep the entire system moving. Minister, local residents want to know what these new recruits and funding mean for emergency coverage on the ground in our community, so the action I seek is for the Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services to outline how the North-Eastern Metropolitan Region will directly benefit from the recent rollout of 53 new paramedics and our $2 billion investment in ambulance services.
