Bellarine link
Gayle TIERNEY (Western Victoria) (18:54): (2791) My matter is for the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. I note the recent announcement by the Premier and the Minister for Roads and Road Safety that a re-elected Carroll Labor government would provide $237 million to build the first stage of the Bellarine link. This new 3.5-kilometre link will provide two lanes in each direction between the Surf Coast Highway and Barwon Heads Road, helping take trucks out of central Geelong and easing pressure on our local roads. The action I ask of the minister is for him to provide information on how this first stage of the Bellarine link will benefit residents in South Barwon. This is a project that has been a local priority for some time, and I take this opportunity to acknowledge Sandy Gatehouse and everyone involved in the Combined Bellarine Community Association for their strong and persistent advocacy. I also want to acknowledge my colleagues Alison Marchant, Chris Couzens and Ella George and Labor’s candidate for South Barwon, Rebecca Thistleton, for their advocacy.
